Overlanding
Travelling ‘overland’ is an adventurous and exciting way to see the sights, meet the cultures, and feel the soul and rhythm of Africa. In a self-sufficient vehicle, we carry everything with us including camping and cooking equipment and get off the beaten track to the real Africa. Travel with like-minded people in a relaxed, easy-going atmosphere and make life-long friends. Add this to special wildlife encounters, evocative landscapes, thrilling adventure activities, and nights camping out in the African bush, and you’ll have a memorable overland tour through Africa with Acacia.
What is Overlanding?
Travelling overland is great fun, but it can also be challenging and it is essential that everyone joins in! You are encouraged to help set up camp and to assist (usually on a roster basis) with day to day campsite chores such as shopping and cooking. But don’t worry – it isn’t all hard work! On the contrary, it’s a great way to meet the local people and to get the most from your African holiday. Most people find that the greater their involvement, the greater their enjoyment.
Is it for you?
Travelling overland is not a conventional holiday, and generally appeals to those between the ages of 18 to mid 40’s. Although people over that age who are active and “young at heart” can join and fit in well with the tour group. Overlanding is by nature an adventurous activity and things don’t always go according to plan! The roads can be rough, the climate arduous, and there can be lengthy delays. If you feel that this type of holiday is not what you are looking for, then may we suggest you consider one of the tours in the second half of the brochure – which are generally shorter and have a few added luxuries!
